SUMMARY:Ophelia's Jump presents In the Next Room or the Vibrator Play
DESCRIPTION:Ophelia's Jump Productions announces the first production of their sixth season with In the Next Room or the Vibrator Play \, the award-winning play by Sarah Ruhl. The production will be performed at the Ophelia's Jump Studio\, located at 2114 Porterfield Way\, Suite H\, in Upland\, from February 2-17\, 2018. Preview performances will be held January 31 and February1. \n\n \n\nAbout In the Next Room or the Vibrator Play:\n\nIn the Next Room\, or the Vibrator Play is a comedy about marriage\, intimacy\, and electricity.\n\nSet in the 1880s at the dawn of the age of electricity and based on the bizarre historical fact that doctors used vibrators to treat 'hysterical' women (and some men)\, the play centers on a doctor and his wife and how his new therapy affects their entire household.\n\nIn a seemingly perfect\, well-to-do Victorian home\, proper gentleman and scientist Dr. Givings has innocently invented an extraordinary new device for treating "hysteria" in women (and occasionally men) - the vibrator. Adjacent to the doctor's laboratory\, his young and energetic wife tries to tend to their newborn daughter?and wonders exactly what is going on in the next room. When a new "hysterical" patient and her husband bring a wet nurse and their own complicated relationship into the doctor's home\, Dr. and Mrs. Givings must examine the nature of their own marriage\, and what it truly means to love someone.\n\nWinner! 2010 Will Glickman Award for Best New Play to Premiere in the Bay Area!\n\nSarah Ruhl is the 2003 recipient of the Whiting Award for Drama\n\n"Insightful\, fresh and funny\, the play is as rich in thought as it is in feeling...one of the most gifted and adventurous American playwrights to emerge in recent years...In the Next Room is a true novelty: a sex comedy designed not for sniggering teenage boys or grown men who wish they were still sniggering teenage boys\, but for adults with open hearts and minds." \n\n- The New York Times\n\n \n\n"A play that's smart\, delicate and very\, very funny!" - New York Post \n\n \n\n\n	Title: In the Next Room or the Vibrator Play - By Sarah Ruhl\n	Direction: Beatrice Casagran - Founding Artistic Director\n	Featuring: (in alphabetical order) Ashlee Dutson\, Patrick McMahon\, Jennifer Rubino Detrow\, Kimberly Kehoe\, Max Herzfeld\, Charlotte Williams and Michael Detrow\n	Location: 2009 Porterfield Way\, Suite H\, Upland \n\n\n(across from LAST NAME BREWING)\n\n\n	Run: PREVIEW PERFORMANCES - January 31 and February 1\, 2018\n\n\n Regular Run - February 2 - 17\, 2018\n\n\n	In the Next Room or the Vibrator Play is produced through special arrangement with Samuel French\n\n\n \n\nOnline ticketing available at opheliasjump.org. \n\nPlease call 909-734-6565 for tickets and information on group discounts.\n\n \n\nMay be inappropriate for 16 and under.
